High school students from the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe will be studying geoscience this June for a 6-day program. This program has been funded by NSF and developed by OPI, Olympic National Park, and the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe.

Tribal youth from 14 to 18 years of age will learn about Earth Sciences and the restoration of the Elwha River while exploring important sites shared in Klallam legends.  This unique 6-day geoscience program integrates baseline studies of the river with cultural history taught by tribal staff and elders.  The program runs from June 25th through the 30th and includes: camping, canoeing, measuring physical habitat, studying water quality, sharing Klallam legends and staying in cabins at OPI.  For more information download the program flyer.

Seasonal Story

"...leaves are in a beautiful transformation, from a bright green they fade to a yellow then to a reddish brown, then fall to the ground and begin to rot, feeding the tree and the river rich nutrients."
