Changing Century of the Elwha River:

After the Dams Fall What Lies Ahead?

An evening with river scholar Thomas O’Keefe, Lower Elwha Klallam staff member LaTrisha Suggs, and active citizen Rick Rutz.  Come join us:

REI 222 Yale Ave North, downtown Seattle Thursday, August 17, 7:00 pm

The Elwha River watershed is the largest in Olympic National Park, and historically the largest producer of salmon on the Olympic Peninsula.  After lengthy legal and political proceedings, its century-old dams are slated for removal in 2009.  Researchers and citizens alike wonder:  after the dams fall, what lies ahead?

Seasonal Story

"...leaves are in a beautiful transformation, from a bright green they fade to a yellow then to a reddish brown, then fall to the ground and begin to rot, feeding the tree and the river rich nutrients."
